Staten Island-born independent filmmaker André Joseph began directing movies at the early age of 13. He studied the craft of film at the New York Film Academy’s 4-week summer program in 2001 and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Film at Emerson College where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2006.

​

In 2008, Andre ́ formed his own New York-based independent film production company, AJ Epyx Productions. With several productions in features, shorts, music videos, and web promos, André has seen his projects go above and beyond. Among his most popular movies include the crime thriller VENDETTA GAMES (Winner of “Best Urban Action Film” at the Cinemax-sponsored 2017 Urban Action Showcase and now streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Tubi) and the dramatic short film THE SAXOPHONIST (Winner of “Best Film” at the 2018 NY Jazz Film

Festival and now streaming on The BeBop Channel app.

 

André’s most recent production, DISMISSAL TIME, tells the tale of a social injustice incident loosely based on his experience as a high school freshman. The award-winning short drama has now become part of a larger platform to address victimization in American schools through the new three-step program called Bright Spot.

In addition to his filmmaking efforts, André has devoted his time to teaching aspiring filmmakers about the craft of directing and videography. André taught a 6-week summer film and video program to students at IDEA Center for the Arts in Camden, NJ. Additionally, André has been hosted by various institutions as a guest lecturer including Wesleyan University, Essex County College, Brooklyn High School for the Arts, Turn On the Lights Global Institute, and Emerson College.

Years of Experiencein Filmmaking

• 1992 - Attended video camp as part of the Snug Harbor Children's Museum program (Staten Island, NY).

• 1997 - Produced my first short film on video with cousins and friends on a family vacation at 13 years old.

• 2001 - Attended the 4 week summer program at New York Film Academy’s Dalton School location.

• 2004-2006 - Studied film at Emerson College. Graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. degree in Film.

• 2006 - Summer production intern at VH1 Classic under Viacom Networks (New York, NY).

• 2007-2008 - Produced, wrote, directed, and starred in my first feature film titled Priceless (Staten Island, NY).

• 2009-Present - Produced three additional feature films, seven short films, and 8 music videos.

• 2013-2016 - Event videographer for Vintage New York City Magazine.

• 2018-2019 - Videographer and editor for Fenix Studios (Staten Island, NY).

• 2021-2022 - Summer film and video instructor at IDEA Center for the Arts (Camden, NJ)
